| Species |
|
In indicating a species, we use Common Trade
Names; we also may refer to type
of cut (e.g., flat cut, rift, quartered) or type of figure, if present. |
| Availability/Compatibility |
|
Availability and Compatibility are typically
relative. If
availability is good, it is easier to find
compatible flitches. |
| Available Lengths |
|
Available lengths are the lengths
that we typically carry every day. If
an unusually long length is required, it may be
difficult to locate. For some species, we may simply
advise you to let us check market availability. |
| Typical Leaf Widths
|
|
|
As a rule, wider widths are proportional to
longer lengths. However, clean longer logs are
more expensive than short clean logs. Our
classification guidelines are as follows:
| |
Very Narrow |
= |
Under 4" |
|
Narrow |
= |
4" to 6" |
|
Average |
= |
6" to 12" |
|
Wide |
= |
Over 12" |
|
| Cost |
|
We post an average cost range rather than using
objectives like moderate or
expensive. By actually giving a price in the
guide, customers may have more information in
the initial planning stages of their projects.
Please remember that there will be exceptions,
particularly for size, uniqueness, or
exceptional quality. Please contact us for exact
pricing pursuant to specific projects. |
| Project Suitability |
|
We have listed applications in descending
degrees of difficulty and have indicated species
suitability for that type of application. |
| Consistency of Look Through Typical
Log or Flitch
|
|
|
Does the grain or heart vary through the flitch?
Is the color uniform? To try and address these
concerns, we have three categories:
|
Very
consistent |
= |
Typically
exotic species that are quarter
sliced. |
|
Medium
consistency |
= |
Typical
of domestic plain sliced
species. |
|
Wide
range of characteristics |
|
